Philips keeps pumping new devices for the ever growing Chinese market. Latest phones we caught are all-touchscreen models called C702 and X806.

The first of the two, Philips C702 (pictured on the left), is a CDMA 1X device, destined for China Telecom. Its specs include 3.4-inch QVGA screen (huge screen for such a low resolution), 1.3-megapixel camera, GPS, Bluetooth, 70MB of internal memory that is further expandable with microSD memory cards.

The second device is Philips X806, a 14mm thick phone which comes with 3.5-inch 240×400 pixels display, 5-megapixel camera, Bluetooth, FM radio, 47MB of internal memory and MicroSD card support. The bad thing about it is the support for GPRS data, only.

And that’s about all we got for you. We’ve no information whether Philips plans to bring these babies outside of China. As soon as we hear something new, we’ll let you know.

Not a ton of details to be found here, but the first shots of what certainly appears to be Philips‘ firstAndroid handset have emerged from China. The V808, as it’s called, certainly looks Androidy enough, with a 3.2-inch, HVGA display, and it will supposedly boast a 3.2 megapixel camera and video recording. In Philips fashion, we can probably expect to see it Xenium branded, but as yet, we have no other details on specs, pricing, or availability, and sadly the phone isn’t powered on in any of the photos. There are two more images after the break — hit the read link for the whole set.

Philips has a new device, member of its Xenium family. It’s the X650, which comes in a slider form factor. As you can see from the image above, it looks quite cool with that metallic keypad.

Rest of the specs include tri-band (900/1800/1900 MHz) GSM radio, 2.4-inch QVGA screen, 3.2 megapixel camera, FM radio, Bluetooth, media player, 30MB of internal memory that is further expandable with microSD memory cards. As for the mentioned battery, it provides enough power to use the phone for up to 8 hours in talk, or up to 720 hours in standby mode. Size wise, the Philips Xenium X650 measures 104.5×52×16.75 mm, and has a weight of 133.9 grams.

Finally, like that’s the case with virtually all Philips’ phones, most probably you’ll have to pick it up in parts of Asia (i.e. China). And we’ve no information on pricing…

Philips is out with yet another member of its Xenium family of handsets. It’s X630, and like other phones in the series, it also comes with a great battery. As a matter of fact, it [battery] should power up the device for up to 12 hours of talk time, and/or up to 50 (yes, fifty) days in standby mode!

Lack of 3G radio certainly helped drive such battery performance, and the rest of the specs include a 2.4-inch QVGA screen, 3.2 megapixel camera, stereo Bluetooth, FM radio, media player, and of course a microSD memory card slot. Size wise, the Xenium X630 measures 111.8×48.9×15.1 mm and has a weight of 118 grams.

We’ve no information on availability nor pricing, but I doubt you can grab this baby outside of Asia…

Mobile phones have evolved immensely since 1983, both in design and function.

From the Motorola DynaTAC, that power symbol that Michael Douglas wielded so forcefully in the movie “Wall Street”, to the iPhone 3G, which can take a picture, play a video, or run one of the thousands applications available from the Apple Store.

There are thousands of models of Mobile phones that have hit the streets between 1983 and now.

We’ve picked a few of the more popular and unusual ones to take you through the history of this device that most of us consider a part of our everyday lives.

We have tried, wherever possible, to include the most popular phones and the phones that were “firsts” for a particular feature, but may have missed out on your favorite phones due to the sheer number of models that are out there.

We invite you to post your faves in the comments section if they are not listed here.

Mobile phones are just now beginning to be as vital to North Americans as they have been to Asians. You can always see what is coming to store shelves in the next six months to a year by looking at the models that are currently available in Japan.

North America also had a spotty 3G network that has only really been revamped recently in order to deal with increasing demands for faster loading speeds from mobile customers, whereas Asia and most of Europe have had proper 3G networks in place for some time.

This has led to a revolution in 3G phones from 2007 until now, with more due to come out in 2009.

The list does not include any phones that were not portable handhelds. Car phones and some handhelds that were the size of a small briefcase were in use in the 1970’s and 1980’s, but since this is more about design than function we chose not to include them here.

Philips X800 - pic 1

You’re probably already aware Philips will be rolling out the X800 all-touchscreen equipped phone in the near future. The device has already been approved by the FCC, giving us hope the launch is imminent. Or is it?

The lack of 3G, WiFi and even EDGE connectivity will certainly kill the deal for many people, myself included, and also indicates Philips may sell the X800 only in Asia. On the good side, though, there’s a 2.9-inch 240×400 touchscreen, 2 megapixel camera with auto-focus, Bluetooth, microSD memory slot, and a 1250 mAh battery, which promises to deliver up to 850 hours of standby and up to 8 hours of talk time.
