Ever since the early days of mobile phone usage there have been questions asked regarding the safety of mobile phones. The concerns arise from the fact that when using a mobile phone we place a source of reasonably powerful microwave radiation close to our head and there is the possibility that this might raise the temperature of brain and other nerve tissue, particularly as there is the potential for microwaves to be channelled and concentrated due to physical structures in the skull and sinuses acting as waveguides.

Despite these concerns there is no case of anybody suffering health problems that have been attributed to their use of a mobile phone. Of course there are safety issues, for instance there are several unconfirmed tales of people walking off the edge of cliffs and similar due to their being too involved with a conversation on their mobiles that they have failed to notice imminent danger, and the dangers of using a mobile in a non-handsfree mode whilst driving are well documented.

Naturally the press enjoys creating sensation where none exists. In the latest study on mobile phone safety it was shown that there was no risk for people who used mobile phones for 30 minutes every day for 10 years. Using a mobile phone for 30 minutes a day ten years ago was probably on the top end of mobile phone usage; not so today when a great many people spend far longer than 30 minutes talking on their mobiles, so what risks do these frequent users face? The press was quick to point out that the report failed to consider these people.

The difficulty is that so far it has not been possible to look at this sample of the population in sufficient detail to come up with meaningful statistical results. No doubt that these studies will continue into the future but, as we said in the beginning, there is no evidence that anybody has suffered from poor health due to mobile phone usage. A spokesman for phones4u commented that anybody who is still concerned about potential damage done by thier phone should use their phone handsfree using either a wired or Bluetooth system, both available nationwide, Visit the site for more info.

NQ, the plucky little British manufacturer who has to date launched three social-centric phones based on Brew (the Chat, the Mini, and the INQ1), will be making the Android jump in Q4, according to CEO Frank Meehan. The new phone will be multitouch, and will mark a permanent switch to Android. Brew was nice and all, but Android is clearly more popular and just as free to use.  INQ’s next handset will also be their first touch device, which will make it a little more expensive for end-consumers, but make it more palatable for salespeople to push (since their commissions will be equally larger).

No word on pricing, features, or carrier availability, but odds are we can count on some tight Twitter, Facebook, and MySpace integration, as well as a reasonably low price point. Currently INQ has products out in the UK, Italy, and India; presumably, they’ll want to break into the U.S. market as soon as possible, and an Android phone may just be the way to do that.

LG announced a new touchscreen slate recently called the Viewty Snap (GM360). It packs a 3″ touchscreen, Bluetooth 2.1, FM radio, social networking apps, including Facebook, and push e-mail. The phone supports a variety of document and media viewing, so it should do well as both a business and pleasure device. I’m going to presume that “Optic-all” means optical zoom on the 5 megapixel camera with LED flash. You can take pictures in low light and in continuous shooting (good for fast-moving targets), as well as upload with one touch to your social networks.
