There are really too many choice rhymes here to pick just one as a representative sample of all the “dope” and “ill” on display in Nokia’s new N97 ad featuring the lyrical stylings of LL Cool J. We recommend you check it out before he begins to attempt to threaten you with physical violence. Video is embedded after the break.
Now here’s a new next-gen iPhone concept I haven’t seen before… and I really like it. No details if this is real or fake, but regardless, the concept is ultra slim, an overall I’m liking the looks of it. All other rumors we’ve heard thus far leads us to believe the next-gen iPhone lineup will be strikingly similar to the iPhone 3G in form… But what would YOU think of a change to an ultra-slim design such as the one above? Would that help or hinder your purchase decision? Or is it more about the ‘guts’ of the device rather than the actual form? Actually, looking at this again, me thinks the placement of the home screen button may be an issue…
I found this rather nice i8910 video on the Orange UK (blog) site. As many of you will know, the i8910 from Samsung is a beast of a multimedia phone, and this unboxing vid lets you get a glimpse of how the all-important UI is with those features.
Things start to get quite fruity, multimedia-wise, at about 2:48 in to the video – starting with images, and then moving on to the HD capabilities of the device – I think this is one of those things that I am going to have to witness in person at the local Orange shop!
Electricpig.co.uk have been hard at work, and got a hands-on with the Viewty Smart – a successor of sorts to the very-successful Viewty that LG released some time back now. The device is going on sale this month, and boasts an 8MP sensor in the camera – nice!
Apparently, and in fact like the Viewty, this is not a smartphone – instead it uses the fixed O/S which LG calls the S-Class – this doesn’t for a second mean the UI doesn’t look nice, it just doesn’t have some of the flexibility (and processing wow factor) you might expect in the average smartphone today. Having said that of course, this is a camera-phone in the truest sense of the word – and that is what it is optimised for!
The Viewty Smart (so-called I guess because of the amount of picture-processing power on board) has a whole series of clever tricks and sensors to give you the best pics – even face detection, a feature that hasn’t long been on digital cameras proper. There’s even some editing software on-board the device to let you take out imperfections in your pics (well actually in your subjects’ faces…). Suffice to say this is a CAMERA-phone, and it would seem that people buying it are not going to be disappointed in that respect! Read the rest of this entry »
Just recently, Sony Ericsson launched another candybar phone called the Sony Ericsson Naite, a reasonably priced handset that comes with a 3G technology. The device is reported to form part of the Sony Ericsson’s GreenHeart vow, a commitment to only manufacture handsets that will eliminate the use of hazardous chemicals in production, reduce paper consumption and use smaller packaging. Each GreenHeart product will include an in-phone HTML-based user guide that gets rid of the necessity for a printed manual.
The Naite (”nigh-tee”) features a 2 megapixel camera and a sophisticated media player. It is expected to go on sale in Q3 of 2009.
As endlessly predicted, Apple’s unveiled a new iPhone today at WWDC, the iPhone 3G S — the “s” stands for speed. Although it looks almost exactly like the 3G, it’s much, much faster — some tasks are almost four times faster. Data speeds are upped to 7.2Mbps HSDPA, and the camera is now a 3 megapixel unit with tap-to-autofocus and auto white balance — and just as expected, it now supports 30fps VGA video recording with editing features. You’re also getting a built-in compass, Nike+ support, and a new battery that offers 5 hours of 3G talk time and 9 hours of WiFi internet use. There are some surprises, too — holding down the home button now enables a new voice control interface that lets you do everything from make calls to control iTunes, and Apple’s touting a new “fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating.” New and end-of-contract pricing is set at $199 for 16GB and $299 for 32GB when it goes on sale June 18th Stateside and in 80 more countries in August — and the current 8GB 3G will remain on sale for $99, effective immediately. You’ll have to pay a bit more if you’re mid-contract, though — $299 for the 3G and $399/$499 for the 3G S.

Russia’s MTS and Nokia announced the signing of the memorandum of understanding on the direct delivery of Nokia devices to MTS’ retail network. The first joint project of the two companies will be the priority sales launch of the Nokia N97, which will start selling with pre-installed software from MTS.
Under the terms of agreement, Nokia will directly supply its products to MTS’ retail network, and will provide a special training program for the carrier’s retail employees.
