We pretty much know Cupcake’s coming to the G1 at some point, but when? Hard to say — we won’t know for sure until the first batch of lucky sons of guns gets that OTA update message — but Google And Blog claims that the next window for an update to go down will be at the end of January after a mid-January release was apparently missed (gee, that never happens). The first release to incorporate Cupcake features will apparently be RC31, and, if it’s any consolation, it’s said that strong positive reaction to Cupcake’s features has caused T-Mobile has doubled its efforts to get this stuff out of the door. So yeah — we wish we could report that we’ve heard stories of RC31 in the wild, but hey, at least they’re still trying to get us this jazz before the month’s out.

Man, it’s crazy to see what flies as a “luxury phone” these days. The altogether vanilla looking Samsung Ego S9402 fittingly feels pretty darn good about itself, and while twin SIM card slots, a Bang & Olufsen sound processor and a 2-inch QVGA AMOLED display are nice inclusions, we’re still wondering what we’ve missed that would justify the 48,990 rubles ($1,543) price tag. Who knows, maybe it’s the 5 megapixel camera, metallic casing or the Russian exclusivity. Yeah, definitely the latter.
