Reverse Phone Lookup

Photos of the ASUS Galaxy 7 touchscreen phone have been popping up for months now, and due to a resemblance a certain Samsung device, it’s been referred to more than once as an “Omnia-killer” (of course, we understand the urge, but we have to ask if it’s even worth the effort). Now it looks like the folks over at Mobile Review have their hands on the thing, and they’ve been kind enough to share their thoughts. Right off the bat, they were disappointed to learn that plans for a 800 MHz processor had been scrapped in lieu of the far less exciting 528 MHz Qualcom MS7200A, but they then go on to give props to the phone’s Glide interface (on par with TouchFlo3D, it seems) and its build quality — the handset itself seems sturdy, well considered, and it even integrates some leather for that touch of “class” that only a dead animal can bring. Other than that, it’s pretty much what you were expecting: a WinMob phone with a 5 megapixel camera, a 3.5-inch (800 x 480) display, 512MB memory, 4GB storage and a microSD slot. The phone should be available early next year.

Until Apple pumps out the next-gen iPhone with integrated solar cells, we suppose Solar Arcadia’s solar-powered cases are your next best option. Available in both SideFlip and Leather Flip models, the cases not only offer relatively stout protection for your handset, but they also include a solar panel in order to give your mobile a few more minutes of life while you’re out and about in the sun. Each one is constructed from ABS sheepskin and is available in either red, white or black (Leather Flip is black only) motifs; not too shabby for $45.95 — just don’t expect this thing to dramatically increase your time of use.

News of the highly anticipated T-Mobile G2 is now hitting us fast and furious. Perhaps the most notable of all the news was the initial leak from the folks over at Cellphone Signal. Their report made a heck of a lot of claims on specs…

With that said, a new tipster has tipped the irreverent BGR off to new details, and it looks like the bits and pieces of the whole deal is changing a bit, including the ever important launch date. Read the rest of this entry »

A quick little tidbit here for iPhone, iPod Touch and G1 users.

The Google Mobile Blog has announced the integration of new search results pages for iPhone and Android. Search results have been optimized to load faster and are formatted to fit just perfect on the device’s display. The new results pages are available in U.S. English for Android… the iPhone and iPod Touch devices with firmware 2.x.

In addition, Google has added touchscreen buttons and expandable maps for local business results. Kudos to Google for making search just a little more friendlier for iPhone, iPod Touch and G1 users.

If HTC (TouchFLO 3D), Sony Ericsson (Xperia Panels), Samsung (TouchWiz) and Asus (Glide) can have their own customized UI apps that sit on top of Windows Mobile, so can i-mate. The idea is of course to make smartphones running Microsoft’s mobile OS easier to use for an average user.

That being said, recently we’ve spotted i-mate releasing an UI app for its line of Windows Mobile smartphones called i-mate Go, which is based on the VITO Winterface and which honestly reminds us on iPhone’s UI. It features large, colorful icons and is easy to personalize. Read the rest of this entry »
